Our Story

History of the Club

Our journey began in 1963, when a group of enthusiastic instructors from Lake Eldora Ski Area founded what was then known as the Lake Eldora Ski Club. Their vision was to bring more people into the world of skiing through vibrant social gatherings and exciting parties. Fast forward to February 1971, the membership decided to embrace a broader horizon and renamed the club to Flatirons Ski Club. This change reflected our expansion into diverse interests and signaled our intent to transcend beyond any single local ski area.

We are a dedicated not-for-profit organization, designed to provide our members with delightful opportunities to revel in skiing and a variety of other recreational and social pursuits. Our mission is to foster good sportsmanship and camaraderie through these activities. Driven entirely by passionate volunteers, we publish a monthly newsletter brimming with details about upcoming events.

What People Are Saying

Joining the Ski Club 25 years ago was one of the best decisions I ever made. Here was a bunch of people who like to do the things I like to do, and I didn’t know them before joining. I thought I knew all the local trails, but Ski Club hikes have shown me an infinite number of new trails, not to mention the adventures of our overnight trips. Social events (FAC, Book Club) are highlights to my week.

My experience with the Flatirons Ski Club has been wonderful.  When I joined one of the senior members invited me and my wife to join him and his wife on a trip to see the Trinity Nuclear explosion site in New Mexico.  He also invited me to ride with him to different ski areas and on canoe trips.  I  felt very special to be asked by someone who certainly had many other friends in the club that he could join. I have been on numerous ski trips with the group which has replaced a group of skiers that had decreased in numbers.  We have enjoyed the holiday party which gives us a chance to fancy up a bit and it is one way we celebrate the holidays.  The book club has also provided a place to meet people that I do not see while engaging in some of the other activities.  I have made many new friends and I should have joined much sooner.

I wanted to share my experience with the club, which has been both unique and rewarding. Over the years, I've joined the club on a few occasions but found myself distracted and unable to participate fully. However, in 2018, I rejoined with a specific goal in mind: to find companions for weekday skiing. This decision turned out to be incredibly fruitful. Not only was I able to go on numerous ski trips, but I also had the opportunity to embark on weekday adventures with a variety of people. This experience has led me to make many new friends and has shown me the supportive nature of our organization.

I've come to realize that this group offers much more than just ski companionship. It provides a platform for individuals seeking new friendships and activities to enjoy. The supportive environment and the diverse opportunities available have been truly beneficial, and I believe others could greatly benefit from what the club has to offer.
